Zach Johnson

Director - Engagement Principal

Zach understands that successful transformation isn’t about the org chart—it’s about the work, the skills and the people that drive it forward and make it stick. As Director and Engagement Principal at Ember Group Consulting, he designs workforce strategies and operating models that align organizational structure with human capability.

His background spans some of consulting’s most respected firms and some of its most challenging projects. At North Highland and Deloitte, Zach guided global life sciences firms through R&D operating model redesigns, created enterprise career architectures for a major league sports media association, and helped lead the CDC’s structural reorganization during the COVID-19 pandemic. These weren’t just consulting deliverables—they were repeatable frameworks that helped organizations function during periods of intense pressure and change.

What makes Zach’s approach distinctive is his focus on sustainability and capability development. Anyone can draw an org chart or run a stakeholder workshop. Zach builds solutions that foster genuine employee engagement and create conditions for long-term growth. His clients value his strategic vision and collaborative style, but what they remember is how his work translates into measurable results that outlast the engagement.

Zach holds a Bachelor’s in Business Management & Administration from Indiana University and certifications in Prosci Change Management and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). His earlier operational experience in real estate and business services gives him practical grounding in how organizations actually work, not just how they’re designed on paper. At Ember Group Consulting, he continues delivering transformative, human-centric solutions that help organizations navigate change effectively.
